DEVELOPING YOUNG LEADERS FOR LIFE
We are passionate about developing young leaders in their faith, leadership and who they are in order to release them back to their church, school or workplace better equipped to live out their faith.
The temporary community of camp offers a context with which to build a depth of relationship, as well as an opportunity for expedited growth through hands-on, action reflection style leadership learning.
As part of our ongoing commitment to developing young leaders, we offer a number of different development opportunities as they seek to grow in their understanding of themselves, their faith and their leadership.
LEADERSHIP ON CAMP
We are committed to growing and developing our camp leaders through hands-on leadership experience as well as relevant training, feedback and coaching.
LEADERSHIP CAMPS & PROGRAMS
Our camps and programs include our gap-year Internship, Leader In Training Program, our partnership with Veta Youth, and our annual EQUIP Leadership Camp.
EQUIP LEADERSHIP EVENTS
CYC also runs a number of events open to anyone interested in growing in their leadership, ranging from social events, to discipleship opportunities and leadership training events.
LEADERSHIP TRAINING IN SCHOOLS AND CHURCHES
We also have regular opportunities to actively resource schools and local churches with leadership training for their school and ministry leaders.
WHY is LEADERSHIP IMPORTANT?
TRANSFORMING LIVES & LEADERS
On the first night of camp, Ethan sat on the edge of the oval, knees pulled in tight. He didn’t know anyone. Home felt far away. God felt even further. A leader sat beside him, not with answers, but with time. They talked about footy, school, and eventually the quiet fear Ethan carried, that he didn’t really belong anywhere.
By the end of the week, Ethan was singing louder than anyone else. He prayed out loud for the first time in his life. He left camp knowing he was seen, known, and deeply loved by God.
But Ethan wasn’t the only one changed.
That leader went home different too. Walking with Ethan forced them to slow down, to listen, to trust that God was already at work. In the middle of their honest conversations and moments of surrender, their own faith was stretched and reshaped. They were reminded why they first said yes, to Jesus, and to this ministry.
This is the heart of CYC. Camp is not just a place where young people are formed in faith, courage, and community. It is also where leaders and volunteers are shaped, learning to serve selflessly, love deeply, and depend fully on God.
At CYC, transformation is never one way. God meets campers and leaders alike, and everyone goes home changed.

Generally speaking, our volunteer leadership roles are open to people aged 15 and up. However, particular camps and specialised roles may require you to be older or have specific qualifications. If you’re not sure if this is right for you, reach out to our team at leadership@cyc.org.au
We know that whilst leadership on camp can be incredibly rewarding, it can also at times be challenging.
On camp, all of our camp are led by an experienced staff person, who in turn structure the leadership teams to build in appropriate practical and pastoral support for all of our leaders.
If there are things that need follow-up after camp, our staff team are keen to know how best we can support our Volunteers, and are always there to debrief camp.
Absolutely!
All of our EQUIP events & camps are open to anyone aged 15+ who wants to grow in who they are, their faith and their leadership!
You don’t need to have led on, or even attended, a CYC camp before, just be keen to get involved in developing yourself.
Because we welcome leaders of all ages, kids under 15 are also welcome to attend, along with a parent/guardian.
Our experienced team of staff and leadership training facilitators offer a range of training sessions or experiences.
