Make a Real Difference by Volunteering

YOUR INVITATION TO BE A PART OF THE STORY!

Every year, hundreds of young people and families come to CYC Camps and our volunteer leaders are the heartbeat of it all. Whether you are cheering kids on through high ropes, leading a cabin group, capturing the fun on camera, or bringing the energy to activities, you will spend the week building friendships, sharing your faith, and creating moments that last a lifetime.

When you lead at camp you are not just helping campers grow. You will be challenged, encouraged, and equipped in your own leadership and faith journey too.

THE DIFFERENT ROLES ON CYC CAMPS

What does leading on camp look like?

Being part of a CYC leadership team means bringing together people with different skills, gifts, and personalities to create unforgettable camp experiences. Whether you love being upfront or prefer to quietly support from behind the scenes, there’s a place for you on our team.

As a leader, you might find yourself caring for a group of young people as a Cabin Leader, running a specialised group as a Stream Leader, capturing memories on the Media Team, keeping everyone safe in First Aid, or bringing the fun and energy through Activities. Every role works together to create a safe, impactful, joy-filled environment for our campers and families.

If you’re passionate about encouraging and engaging young people, have an active Christian faith, and are excited about serving alongside an amazing team, we would love to help you find the right role on camp!

THE DIFFERENT ROLES ON CYC CAMPS

Find the Right Role for You

Every leader brings something unique to camp. Whether you love connecting one-on-one, thriving in the energy of activities, or creating behind the scenes, there’s a place for you to use your gifts. Explore the different ways you can serve and discover where you fit best on a CYC leadership team.

Cabin Leader

Invest deeply in a small group of campers—building relationships, supporting them through activities, and helping create a memorable, safe, and fun camp experience.

Stream Leader

Lead and support a particular age group or stream on Family Camps—guiding the program, caring for families, and helping shape a positive community atmosphere.

Activities Crew

Help bring the fun! Assist in running activities, games, and program elements that make camp exciting, engaging, and full of life.

Media Team

Capture the moments that matter. Photograph and film the camp experience so campers and families can remember and celebrate the journey long after camp ends.

YOUR CAMP EXPERIENCE

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF CAMP

Whilst a day in the life of camp can look different depending on the age group or style of camp, beyond all the normal things like incredible food and accomodation that is provided, there are several key elements that are consistent across all CYC Camps.

FAQ APPLY TO LEAD

CHRISTIAN INPUT

All of our camps include age-appropriate Christian input and worship sessions, as well as facilitated small group discussions around issues of life and faith. As a leader you will not only participate in these times, but have the opportunity to facilitate these discussions as campers engage in their faith and who they are.

AMAZING GAMES

This is what brings the energy to camp! Our Program and Activities team put together an awesome camp program filled with epic games and activities designed to engage all campers. As a leader, not only do you get to be a part of these activities, but you also get to engage with campers as you do so.

SITE ACTIVITIES

The incredible thing about our CYC campsites is that they are chock full of incredible site activities. Look forward to joining with your campers as you coast down a flying fox, float down a river, canoe across a lake, balance on a mountain board or ropes course, and so much more! There won’t be a dull moment all week!

RELATIONSHIP & COMMUNITY

One of the best parts of camp is the ability that leaders have to build relationships with campers and provide a safe space for them to grow in who they are. As a leader your role is to bring the best out in campers, to encourage them in who they are and who God has created them to be!

how to apply Got questions?

What age do I need to be to volunteer?

Generally speaking, our volunteer leadership roles are open to people aged 15 and up. However, particular camps and specialised roles may require you to be older or have specific qualifications. If you’re not sure if this is right for you, reach out to our team at leadership@cyc.org.au

Do I need to be a Christian to lead on camp?

Yes. As a Christian organisation, all leaders must be active in their faith and connected to a local church community. Your application will ask you about your faith journey, and will also need to include a reference from a church leader from the church you currently attend, who knows you well.

Will I receive training before camp?

Yes. All leaders complete online training before camp and receive on-site briefing and orientation when they arrive. This ensures you are equipped for both the practical and spiritual aspects of your role.

Do I have to pay to volunteer?

Thanks to the incredible support of our Board and Campsites, there is no fee to serve as a volunteer leader on CYC Camps. All accommodation, meals, and program costs are covered while you serve on camp

What if I've never been on camp before?

No problem. Many of our best leaders started with no previous camp experience. If you love working with young people, are willing to serve, and have an active faith, we will train and support you every step of the way.

What should I do if I have other questions about volunteering on camp?

For any questions about this process, or anything to do with volunteering on camp, get in contact with our Leadership Development Coordinator on leadership@cyc.org.au.
